It is surprising to see a duo from southwest England create such soulful R&B music, but that’s what HONNE have done. Composed of James and Andy, they named their duo after the Japanese word for ‘true feelings’. It is an apt name for the musicians, who instil a sense of intimacy and closeness with their sexy sounds.
This was definitely the case at Electric Brixton, where they seduced the crowd and showed them just what they can do. Even though they are a relatively small-time group, they packed out Electric Brixton and delivered a beautiful and dramatic performance. They seemed comfortable performing, and it is clear that despite having been releasing music only since 2014, they have learned a lot about pleasing a crowd.
There is no reason why a combination of electronic and R&B music, like what HONNE delivers, shouldn’t be the music of the future. Everything in the charts at the moment is pointing towards this fusion of genres, and it seems like the right time for HONNE to capitalise on this. And with their evident skill in performing and their ability to pack out venues as large as Electric Brixton, the future seems bright for this British duo.
